KAREN Steele will recontest for the position of Bunbury councillor in the October 2021 local government elections.
Cr Steele has spent most of her life in Bunbury including going to school and working.
After travelling the UK in her 20s, Cr Steele returned home with her partner Martin who she now has two children with.
Cr Steele loves to volunteer and has been on her children's P&C school boards, sporting clubs and is a board member of the Stirling Street Arts Centre and Lotteries House.
"I believe councillors are the voice and decision makers for our community," she said. "I am that person to work hard on their behalf.
"We do great things within council, together with inclusivity we can make it better."
One thing Cr Steel would like to see improved is the ability for residents to have their say to council.
"I want our community to feel included in the decisions we make at council," she said.
"I would like it to be made easier for everyone to be able to ask questions on a less formalised approach.
"It can be daunting for people to come to a council meeting if they are not used to such a formal setting.
"We are the voices on Council for our community and we should be making it easier to attend meetings and for them to have their say."
Cr Steele doesn't get a lot of time off in between work, council, volunteering and being mum.
However, on the weekends, you can see her at her children's sporting games which is mainly soccer and now football.
"Summertime finds our family swapping from soccer to basketball, hitting our amazing beaches on the weekend with our dogs and having friends over for barbecues," she said.
The other councillor candidates are Mark Chadwick, Tresslyn Smith, Matt Foreman, Ben Andrew, Marina Quain, Daniel Singleton, Dave Chandler, Wayne Chattillon, Michelle Steck, Jaysen De San Miguel, Dr Parthasarathy Ramesh and Gabi Ghassab.
The mayoral candidates are Michelle Steck, Amanda Yip, Cheryl Kozisek, Betty McCleary, Jaysen San DeMiguel, David Kerr, Michael Southwell, Alfred Leigh, Tresslyn Smith and Gabi Ghassab.
