Six Bunbury Water Polo players will soon get the opportunity to showcase their skills at a higher level.
Jack Deschamp, Jayden Horne, and Alix English will represent Western Australia's Men side in the 2019 Australian Country Water Polo Championships, held at the Miami Aquatic Centre, on the Gold Coast, from May 15 to 18.
Having finished fifth in last year's tournament, WA is striving to reach the podium this time around.
Competing in his fifth national event, Deschamp is excited to meet/re-unite with his teammates and travel across the country.
"It always feels good to play water polo at a higher level," he said.
"I am humbled to be involved in the team...we've got a pretty strong team this year.
"The boys played well last year, and I think we can do even better this year."
WA Women's team members Heather Scott, Amy Sundercombe, and Gilly Johnson will also be hitting the pool later this week.
Sundercombe and Johnson were part of last year's bronze medal-winning squad.
Scott told the Mail she was eagerly looking forward to her first Australian Country Championship event.
"It should be fun...I am hoping that we can do really well," she said.
"I love that water polo is competitive, good for you, and very unique compared to a lot of other sports."
All six Bunbury Water Polo members were selected based on their efforts in the 2019 WA Country Championships, held in Busselton earlier this year.
Horne, Deschamp, and Scott were voted into the All-Stars teams. Scott also tied with Geraldton's Ellie Pead for Women's Tournament Best and Fairest.
Deschamp and Scott are encouraging all community members to give water polo a go.
"We want people to visit the club and get into the water polo spirit," Deschamp said.
